The 70 members of the Livonia Civic Chorus, with Music Director Donna Gleason, sing "God Bless the USA", May 15, 2016.

The Livonia Civic Chorus is bidding a fond farewell to Musical Director Donna Gleason and Accompanist Rimma Stolbov who are retiring after 14 years of providing musical leadership for the volunteer members of the Chorus.

Donna began as the accompanist of the Livonia Civic Chorus in 2002 and assumed directorship in 2003. At the same time she was the accompanist at Walled Lake Western High School and vocal director for their musicals. Donna had also been the music minister of Redford Baptist Church for 22 years. Rimma joined as our accompanist in 2004 with her music degree from the Music College of Latvia and over 25 years of teaching piano lessons and accompanying students at music festivals.

Donna selected musical programs for the Chorus for their two major concerts each year, one in December for the Holidays, and with a Chorus Show Committee for each Spring Show in May. Rimma provided the music. Together, with humor, they guided, chided, and cheered the various chorus voices to come together during at least 30 rehearsals for each season and an increasing number of community outreach performances for community events, memorials, and “Musical Interludes for Seniors.”<

Donna and Rimma have instilled in today's 70 members of the Livonia Civic Chorus the joy of rehearsing and performing with others and shown us how to share the enhanced quality of our musical experiences with our audiences. The music of the chorus has ranged from simple unison numbers to challenging, intricate harmonies. Artistic talent, creativity and a dedicated work ethic are essential to the continued success of the Chorus into its 52nd season.

According to the Chorus' President, Dr. Peggy Gaskill, “I am pleased to announce on behalf of the Board and members of the Livonia Civic Chorus that our new musical leadership team will be Ryan Dawley, Music Director, and Kimberly Swan, Accompanist. They both bring impressive credentials to this new assignment and we fully expect them to be leading us to new musical heights.”
